What was your first job?

One of my first summer jobs was a painter for the public schools in my hometown. We painted everything from the auto shop to the high school scoreboard. Most days I came home with just as much paint on my clothes and hair as the walls.

What is your favorite “treat” food/food that is bad for you?

Donuts are my guilty pleasure. They’re making a comeback. Downtown Chicago has quite a few spots that have popped up in the last couple of years, which has made the temptation difficult to resist.

What is your favorite family tradition?

My grandmother started a tradition of taking my mom to the Walnut Room at Macy’s (formerly Marshall Fields) in downtown Chicago every holiday to eat under the Christmas tree. My mom continued the tradition and we’d take the train in from Michigan every year. Now we’re taking my kids. It reminds me of my childhood and always gets me in the holiday spirit.
